We offer a variety of services to meet your needs, including assessment of your piano to determine how it can be improved; tuning, regulation & repairs; as well as full restorations at our workshop.
Take a look at our services below and if there is anything not covered that you wish to discuss, please get in touch!
Below is a list and explanation of the services we provide. Where possible, we aim to complete the work in-situ to minimise the costs and disruption of moving a piano unnecessarily however in cases of full restoration pianos can be transported to our workshop.
All pianos go out of tune over time. The environment they're kept in and how often they're played are all factors in how quickly this happens. It's important that your piano is kept at concert pitch (440hz) to make sure that what you're hearing matches the notes on your sheet music. In general, we recommend that your piano is tuned at least once a year. All tuning visits include a free basic assessment of your piano to advise if anything can be done to improve it or tailor it to your wishes.
Takes around 1.5-2hrs to complete. For pianos that have been regularly tuned and are not drastically flat/out of tune.
If the piano is more than 3/4hz from concert pitch, it will firstly require a pitch correction tuning before the fine tuning can take place which roughly takes around half an hour.
Sometimes a piano just needs a little TLC to get it back to looking its best. Our revive service is a quick and easy way to give your piano a facelift and really make a difference to how it looks. The revive service involves bringing the brasses and keys back to our workshop and returning with them to reinstall later on. Combined with a tuning, this gives your piano a real upgrade!
The revive service includes:
Do you sometimes feel your keys don't play consistently? Or do you sometimes struggle to play at the appropriate volume? A piano is a machine and like any other requires maintenance and adjustment to keep it at its best. Think of regulating a piano as similar to taking your car in for a service.
Some symptoms of poor regulation include: Extremely light or heavy touch; inconsistent volume of individual notes; uneven keyboard; bobbling/double striking of hammers and notes not cutting off cleanly.
Including:
This includes the services provided in a standard regulation but also includes the action and keys being brought back to our workshop to be stripped down, cleaned, lubricated & reassembled before being returned, installed and a standard regulation completed on site.
Not all pianos have the same tone- some are bright, some are mellow. What's pleasing to your ear is entirely personal preference, and voicing can allow the tone to be adjusted to give you the most enjoyment from your playing.
As voicing is part of the delicate final adjustments, it can only be carried out on a tuned & regulated piano.
A basic assessment of your piano is included with every tuning, however if you'd require a report on the overall condition of the piano; any recommended works and a bespoke quote, you can arrange for an assessment callout. If you then decide to proceed with the work, this charge will be deducted from the total cost.
You will receive a written report with photographs detailing recommended work and a quote. (Please note, an additional charge of £20 applies for visits more than 30 miles from our Stockport workshop).
